The new low-cost SMD PICPAR modem
In addition to the standard PICPAR 9600bd FSK modem for the centronics interface we now offer a brand new development, carried out with our U.S. distributor Tigertronics Inc. The PICPAR SMD is a compact assembly of the
standard PICPAR modem, using small surface mounted components. The modem fits into a
nice plastic case, which is only 2mm wider and higher than a normal 25p D-Sub connector.
Thus the modem can be directly connected to the centronics interface connector at
the back of your PC without using an extra cable.
The modem circuit is almost identical with the standard PICPAR modem, but we
have added a possibility to feed the modem with an external power supply, in case
the internal supply via the centronics interface is not sufficient to
power the modem (as it may be the case with a few 3V laptops).
The centronics interface is identical to the PICPAR/PAR96 standard, so all
known drivers (BayCom, PC-Flex, TFX and Linux) are usable with the new modem, too
There is also "further technical information" on the PICPAR modem on this
server for all those, who want to build one theirself.
